Prayer Book

Prayer book (Greek: εὐχολόγιον, euchologion) — collection of prayers.

In the Greek Church in ancient times, the collection of prayers was called the "Euchologion" (εὐχολόγιον, from εὐχή — "prayer" and λέγω — "to speak; to collect"), which is translated into Slavic and Russian as "prayer book" and into English - "prayer book".

A typical Orthodox prayer book contains morning and evening prayers ("at bedtime") prayers, as well as the rule for Holy Communion (which includes 3 canons and the Following to Holy Communion), that is, the most common prayers for home (cell) reading. Usually prayer books also include Thanksgiving prayers for Holy Communion. The Orthodox prayer book may include other prayers, the composition of which may vary significantly.
